OLED display technology is different from traditional LCD display mode. It does not need backlight. It uses very thin organic coatings and glass substrates. When current passes through, these organic materials will emit light. Moreover, OLED display screen can be made lighter and thinner, with a larger visual angle, and can significantly save electricity.

The basic structure of OLED is a sandwich-like structure consisting of a thin transparent ITO connected to the positive pole of electric power and another metal cathode. The whole structure layer includes: Hole Transport Layer (HTL), Light Emission Layer (EL) and Electron Transport Layer (ETL). When the power is supplied to the appropriate voltage, the positive hole and the cathode charge will combine in the luminescent layer to produce brightness. The three primary colors of red, green and blue RGB will be produced according to the different formulations, forming the basic color. OLED is characterized by its own luminescence, unlike TFTLCD, which requires backlight, so its visibility and brightness are high, followed by low voltage demand and high power efficiency. With fast response, light weight, thin thickness, simple structure and low cost, OLED is regarded as one of the most promising products in the 21st century.

To illustrate the structure of OLED, each OLED unit can be compared to a hamburger. The luminous material is a vegetable sandwiched in the middle. Each OLED display unit can generate three different colors of light under control. Like LCD, OLED can be divided into active and passive modes. In passive mode, the cells selected by row and column addresses are illuminated. In the active mode, there is a thin film transistor (TFT) behind the OLED unit, and the light emitting unit is illuminated by TFT. Passive OLED saves power, but active OLED displays perform better.

The advantages of OLED are that it is light and thin, and its thickness is only one third of LCD; because it is a solid structure, its seismic performance is better, and it is not afraid of falling; the visual angle is large, even when viewed from a large perspective, the picture is still undistorted; the display time is fast, there will never be tailing phenomenon; the low temperature characteristic is good, it can still be displayed normally at minus 40 degrees; the manufacturing process is simple and the cost is low; It has high light rate and can be manufactured on different materials.
